Clue de la Cerise

During his 2002 summer search for natural arches in southern France, the author was amazed by this huge and surprising double pothole bridge. This twin bridge is located 300 meters downstream from the beginning of the narrow Clue de la Cerise ("Clue" is the name used locally for narrow canyon). This Clue is the 4th narrow canyon of the emerald river of Esteron in the valley of the same name. It is located 35km north of Nice city below the scenic village of Gilette. The author rappeled from inside of the small opening with a rope 40 meters long (doubled over) and found the rope too short to reach the river level. If you consider the river to be 2 or 3 meters deep in this place, the bridge can be over 20 meters high. The panoramic picture below shows the height of the bridge.
