Le Trou de la Tine (FR 9) is located on the top of Mont-Saleve at 1250 meters above sea level in Haute-Savoie county of France and close of the Switzerland border. The Mont-Saleve is famous on the area for these spectacular overlook on Geneva city and Geneva lake, as well for these numerous cave. This arch should be considered as irregular type natural arch. It was formed on a side cliff by erosional partioning from a shallow hole. "Tine" is an old local name for "barrel" and "trou" means "Hole" in french. Note the author on the photo for scale. This arch is located and named on the IGN topo map 1/25000 "Mont-Saleve" n°3430WEST. How to reach : From roads junction N206 and D145 in Collonges-sous-Saleve (250 meters from La Croix de Rozon swiss customs), cross the railway and drive road D145 for 3.2 km to "Le Coin" locality. Then, drive up the zig zag road D45 for 4.7 km to "La Croisette" and the top of the Mont-Saleve. Great panorama on the french Alps. Turn left and drive road D41 for 0.700 km and park at the trailhead. From the trailhead, hike north 1km the trail signed "La Corraterie 20 minutes" to the massive arch. The top of the arch is accessible from each side of the opening.
