Delicate Arch (Salt Wash)

Salt Wash area of Arches National Park boasts the famous Delicate Arch on the top of a huge sandstone cliff. The isolated arch (known as an "abandoned" type of natural arch) is carved in a dome of Entrada Sandstone and attracts thousand of tourist each year indeed, it is probably the best know natural arch in the world. The spectacular sitting of the span is especially scenic at sunset, ornamented by snow-capped Lasal Mountains in the background. The arch has a span of 32 feet and a heigh of 46 feet. A marked and cairned trail starting at Wolf Ranch climbs up to the arch via a slickrock slope. The trail is 3 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 500 feet. This symbolic opening is pictured on many place in the town of Moab as well as on travel brochure, books, post card, gift shops, shop sign, licence plate and many more. This is also the emblem of the Natural Arch and Bridge Society (NABS), a non-profit society supporting the study, appreciation and preservation of natural arches and bridges.
