Ponts Naturels des Parres (France)

Parres Natural Bridge is located in the brook of "Bief des Parres" near the town of Saint-Claude in Mont-Jura at the heart of Haut-Jura Regional Park, in Jura department of France. This is a long canyoneering trip about 6 hours (4km) which require a rope of 70 meters long for the heighest waterfall. This trip give access to two natural bridges in an isolated forest area seldom visited. The brook of Bief des Parres is usualy dry most of the year. Hovewer, visitors will be confronted to many obstacles to overcome as cold potoles of water and close to 20 dryfalls. The largest natural bridge has a span of 7.5 meters and a height of 3.4 meters. The second bridge is located just below the first bridge after some slide ramp. IGN topographic map number 3328 west Cret des Neiges (pleat A7).

How to reach : From the village of Septmoncel, drive road D436 for 2km to "L'Evalide" crossroad. To begins the trip turn left and drive road D25 for 5.6km to Combe-Bry road bridge and park. From there, follow the brook 300 meters downstream in the forest to start the trip. For a shuttle, drive down road D436 from "L'Evalide" crossroad toward Saint-Claude for 7.2km and turn left. Then, drive 0.800 meters to Flumen River bridge (Hotel) and turn left again in the narrow road. Drive this road along Flumen River for 1km to a factory and park at the terminus.
