The lower Escalante Basin is an incredible landscape... a wonderful canyon complex. Escalante River and its multitude of tributaries forms one of the best drainage systems in the world (comparable to Sierra de Guara in Spain). These canyons shelter some great geologic formation, including towering cliffs, huge undercuts, slot canyons, big natural arches and bridges, and fascinating flora along the intermittent running streams...a real Eden. This beatiful area houses impressive Stevens Arch...225 feet in length, the seventh longest span in the U.S.(not shown there). Jacob Hambling Arch is one of the most scenic arches, with a span of 102 feet. This span is a great example of how an arch could in the future develop into a natural bridge if the river eventually cuts through the river meander. A third spectacular and popular span is Broken Bow Arch in Willow Gulch, with a height of 100 feet.
