Tin-Tazarift-Sefar Area

The natural arches of Tassili National Park in Algerian Sahara desert by Guilain Debossens - An unique "arch by arch" hiking guide created with the following cast of the Natural Arch and Bridge Society (NABS). Edited by David Brandt-Erichsen.

The Park National of "Tassili-N-Ajjer" (or Crevice's Plateau) is located in SouthEastern Algeria Sahara near the oasis of Djanet. The park is 80'000 square kilometers and is one of the largest in the world (twiced the area of Switzerland) and streches to Libya and Niger boundaries. Created in 1972 to preserve the magnificient rock art painted by sheperd people living there 8000 years ago, the park is now a Unesco- certified biosphere reserve since 1986. The plateau is an incredible mineral landscape of deep canyons, peaks forests of sandstone and myriad of natural arches. Accessible only by few passes through huge barrier of 600 meters high, the plateau can be visited with burros and Tuareg guide from Djanet (Winter is the best season) but requires several days of self-endurance.Find below some examples of natural arches about "The Plateau" divided in three panels.
